Why Clean Water Keeps Us Safe

By Mulungi Rapha 4B

Water is one of the most important things in the world. We drink it, cook with it, wash with it, and even play with it. But did you know that not all water is safe? If we drink or use dirty water, we can get really sick.

Let me tell you how clean water keeps us healthy — and how dirty water can cause problems.

🥤 Clean Water Helps Our Bodies

When we drink clean water, our bodies stay strong and fresh. Clean water helps us:

  • Stay cool on hot days
  • Help our tummy digest food
  • Remove bad stuff from our body when we pee
  • Keep our skin and eyes clean

Our bodies are mostly made of water, so we need to drink it every day!

🤢 Dirty Water Can Make Us Sick

If we drink water that has dirt, germs, or poop in it, we can get sick with diseases like:

  • Cholera – makes you vomit and have bad diarrhea
  • Typhoid – makes you feel very weak with fever
  • Worms – live in your stomach and steal your food
  • Dysentery – causes painful diarrhea with blood

These are called water-borne diseases. They are very dangerous, especially for children.

🧼 How to Stay Healthy with Water

To make sure we use clean water:

  1. Boil it before drinking
  2. Cover water containers so flies don’t enter
  3. Use clean cups when drinking
  4. Wash your hands before eating or after using the toilet
  5. Don’t fetch water from dirty places like near rubbish or animal poop

🩹 What If Someone Gets Sick?

If someone drinks dirty water and gets sick:

  • Tell an adult quickly
  • Give them clean boiled water to drink
  • Go to the health centre or hospital
  • Don’t wait — the earlier, the better!

💙 Let’s Keep Each Other Healthy

Clean water means clean life. When we use water safely, we protect our families, our schools, and our communities. Let’s promise to drink clean water, wash our hands, and teach others too!

Clean water = Happy children! 😄💧
